Dan Evans
I work at lifestyle concierge as part of the golf team. I’ve been a fan of golf my entire life, mainly due to the fact that it’s been ever-present since I was born because both my father and my grandfather are avid golfers. I was a cadet at Orsett Golf Club in Essex, and developed my skills there, although I still attribute my swing to my dad, who’s been trying to coach me since I could walk. He’s still working on trying to eradicate the nasty slice that sometimes appears out of nowhere.
As an adolescent I lost touch with the game and moved onto football, playing for the Brentwood School A Team until the sixth form. Since finishing university, I’ve got back into golf and although at times I struggle around the course – the odd shank is not uncommon – I genuinely love playing.
I think what I admire most about the game is that no two rounds are the same, and no matter how badly you’re playing, there’s always that one shot that brings you back, the one you mention in the 19th over a cold beverage with your fellow players.
My favourite golfing moment was Justin Rose as an amateur, holing his third shot from the rough on the 18th hole at the 1998 Open at Royal Birkdale. It was inspiring to see the then 17-year-old amateur finish his round with such an incredible shot on the last, to be tied for fifth place overall in the championship.
These days I fit golf in whenever I can, getting a quick round in with a few friends back in Essex, or heading down to the range. My favourite course is London Golf Club. I have a great general knowledge of UK clubs and some excellent contacts in the industry, all of which I put to good use helping our golfing members.
