Suzuka, Japan
The circuit at Suzuka is unique for two reasons – it’s the only figure-eight track in F1, and it’s set in a funfair. It is considered one of the most challenging in motor racing, and most memorable for a high-profile spat between Alain Prost and the late Ayrton Senna after they appeared to crash into each other deliberately. A record six Japanese Grands Prix have been won by Michael Schumacher, a feat Sebastian Vettel might aspire to surpass, having triumphed here for Red Bull for the last two years running.
A relative newcomer on the Grand Prix scene, the Japanese contribution to Formula One has been on the calendar since 1976 – although it disappeared for a decade just a couple of years later and has also taken place many times in the rival Toyota-owned Fuji Speedway (Suzuka is owned by Honda).
