Gifts for special occasions

Members consult us about special event gifts because:

• They need inspiration and our sourcing specialists can think up new and meaningful ideas for traditional occasions, such as anniversaries.
• They don't have time to track down unusual gifts, and we have the contacts and expertise to find, buy and wrap the present (we've even written the card and delivered the package).
• We give individual attention. We know our members and what's important to them, so we can match a present to the giver as well as the recipient.

Searching for the perfect gift for a special event takes time that many of our members don't have. We often get asked for help finding gifts for special events such as Valentine's Day which, if you're not careful, can become a bit of a red-rose cliché. Many members don't want to lose the romance of it, but just need a few ideas.

Lifestyle manager Hannah Rech says: 'When one member needed help with ideas for his wife, we arranged an appointment for her to have a bespoke perfume created. For another, we organised for a luxurious breakfast in bed to be prepared as a surprise.

'For newborn baby celebrations, members are often keen on gifts that will accrue in value. One member was particularly pleased with a bottle of special port we found for his godson. It was set to mature 18 years later – ready to act as an investment – or perfect for his godson to drink in celebration on his birthday.'

Insider tips

• The key factor is budget. It doesn't matter if you don't want to spend a lot – we can research ideas for presents that will delight the recipient.
• We have good relationships with suppliers who will make up fabulous gift hampers to order, containing items to suit the recipient's age and personality.
• If you're able to, try to think ahead. It's amazing how many last-minute requests we get for gift ideas for an event that has been planned for weeks.
