Our in-house golf pro, Neil Docking, says:
‘This short course is tucked away just minutes from the centre of Cannes. And what a great golf course – it’s fun for good golfers as well as beginners. It keeps you on your toes enough for it to be interesting but it never gets too easy. If you keep the driver in the bag and play the course a little cautiously, you could shoot a very low score. However, don’t be fooled – there is still trouble out there.
‘The clubhouse is not very big but it’s extremely accommodating, with large glass windows, views of the course, big screen TVs to watch sport on, a superb restaurant and some interesting contemporary sculptures. It really is like a miniature version of an American-style country club, but with a dash of French flair. You’ll want to sip a few drinks on the patio after the round.
‘The course is short and if you don’t have the usual five hours to spare for a round, you can play in less than four quite comfortably. It’s also handy to have a few tips on the place before you go. On the fifth hole, play to the right of the big tree and go for the green in one. If you don’t reach, you’ll end up on the fourth fairway or tee, but be sure to check for players on that hole. The 17th hole is another risk/reward hole off the tee. If you have the length, smash it over the water. You could get on in one and there is space around the green, so you shouldn’t lose your ball.
‘If you are in this part of the South of France, don’t miss out on Riviera Golf de Barbossi – it makes golf really fun without resorting to gimmicks.’
