Certain stoves and boilers that are fuelled by wood pellets may have approval for use even in smokeless zones such as London, giving many of our members the option to heat their house in a more ‘green’ way.
‘While it is an offence to emit smoke from a chimney or from a fixed boiler in a smoke-controlled area, many wood-pellet stoves and boilers have passed safety tests and are exempt from these rules,’ says Jerrard Watts, one of our greener living experts.
Approved wood pellet stoves and boilers are capable of burning an unauthorised, or inherently smoky solid fuel without producing smoke.
Get in touch if you’d like us to help you check smoke control-approved boilers. Our home and greener living experts will be able to determine whether your wood-pellet stove and/or boiler is approved for use, help you to choose the right one, and arrange for its installation.
