Members choose Nobu to:
- Try its acclaimed Michelin-starred Japanese-Peruvian food (especially the famous black cod).
- Celebrate a special occasion, treat clients to a stylish business lunch or take someone on a very impressive first date.
- See and be seen – Nobu remains a celeb feeding ground.
Our restaurant expert Katie O'Neill says:'Nobu is known for its 'new style' cuisine – Japanese with a South American influence. Peruvian-style spicy rib-eye steak shares the bill with chicken in teriyaki sauce, and the sushi and sashimi are fresh and well cut to bring out the flavour of the fish. Make sure you try the black cod in miso – although it's often imitated elsewhere, the original is still the best.
'The huge menu offers a broad range of soups, salads, seafood, meat dishes and a long list of specialties (Wagyu beef with foie gras gyoza for those who want to ramp up the luxury). Ask the friendly black-clad staff to explain what's on offer and talk you through the large selection of wine and sake.
'Located on the first floor of the Metropolitan Hotel, this smart Park Lane restaurant – with its seductive minimalist decor and huge windows overlooking Hyde Park – still holds a reputation as one of the capital's best destination restaurants. Although the days of paparazzi crowding the entrance are gone, Nobu is still popular with polished, affluent diners who come to people watch and soak up the buzz.
'Nobu is usually filled with businessmen during lunch, so if you're planning a special occasion it's better to go in the evening. Tables are close enough together to keep the atmosphere alive but there's enough room between them for a romantic dinner.
'There is, however, a two-hour turnaround on tables – if you're planning a big night with friends or family, ask us to book the private dining room, which caters for up to 20 and offers a tasting menu.'
