Members ask us to help source housekeepers and other support staff because:
- We have the knowledge. Our expertise can ease what is often a baffling process.
- We do the legwork that members don't have time for. We have good contacts with a range of reliable agencies which we vet and price-check regularly.
- We help members sort out the problems that can arise with staff.
Our home services expert Casey Daniel says: 'Many of our members are pressed for time, so we gets lots of requests for live-in housekeepers. But employing support staff to work with the family can be a challenge. Not only do they have to be able to do the job, they must also balance household tasks with everyday life: looking after the children one minute, walking the dog and cooking meals the next.
'We have long-term relationships with agencies, so we can make it easy for members to employ reliable and suitable staff for the job. We help with housekeepers, butlers, PAs, full-time chauffeurs and nannies. We even helped one member when he wanted an SAS-trained bodyguard.'
Insider tips
- Before you start hiring, be clear on what's needed. Think about the jobs you need help with. Does a housekeeping candidate need to be good with children? Will they have to drive the family car? If cooking is part of the job description, do you require cordon bleu or good basic home-cooking? Where does their role begin and end?
- Think about pay, hours, duties, benefits and routine.
- Follow up references with previous employers.
- Check household insurance policies to ensure a domestic worker in your home is covered.
- Domestic employers have legal obligations. Check whether you need to register as an employer with HM Revenue & Customs.
